The book is the result of a multi-year research and publication project carried out as part of a collaboration between TU Wien and Lviv Polytechnic University with the Department of Architecture and Spatial Development of the Lviv City Council. The project ran from November 2020 to June 2025. The long duration was influenced by the effects of the pandemic and was even more strongly marked by the consequences of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine (since February 2022).
This book was completed in the academic year 2024-25 and it is the result of a collaborative work that describes the unique characteristics of the resilient functioning of the city of Lviv in the context of urban change and unpredictable crises. To this end, it discusses the ongoing urban transformation processes in Lviv and builds a bridge between research and practice both before and during the war.
